Pediatric Central Neurocytoma.
Central neurocytomas are well-differentiated tumors of neuronal origin. These are relatively uncommon in the pediatric population. Anaplastic features reflected by brisk mitotic activity, microvascular proliferation, necrosis, and MIB-1 labeling index >2% or 3% have been proposed to indicate aggressive behavior. Because of its rarity, there is paucity of data regarding the histologic spectrum a...

We report a case of central neurocytoma that manifested tumor recurrence with craniospinal dissemination. Imaging studies before surgery showed a markedly enhanced tumor with small cysts and calcification, which invaded the adjacent brain parenchyma, located in the posterior horn of the right lateral ventricle. Proton MR spectroscopy showed markedly elevated choline and lactate peaks with a str...
متن کاملCentral neurocytoma: report of two cases.
INTRODUCTION Central neurocytomas are rare neuroectodermal tumors believed to arise from the subependymal matrix of the lateral ventricles. CASE REPORTS A 26-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man each had a large, heterogeneous, contrast enhancing mass in the lateral ventricles at the foramen of Monro causing bilateral hydrocephalus. The woman died after surgery, but the man is asymptomatic af...
متن کاملPeritoneal dissemination from central neurocytoma: case report.
OBJECTIVE Central neurocytoma is a low grade tumor of neuroglial origin and a relatively new histological entity. Only a few cases have been reported and its biological behavior is still uncertain. Some cases have shown an aggressive behavior (local recurrence, malignant dedifferentiation or CSF dissemination) and challenged the initial view of its relative benignity. A case of central neurocyt...
متن کاملCentral neurocytoma with clinically malignant behavior.
We describe two cases of central neurocytoma that did not show histopathologic features of anaplasia but did show tumor dissemination after surgery and radiation therapy. CT and MR imaging before surgery depicted extraventricular extension of the tumors. The importance of radiologic findings is stressed.
